Nucor Corporation is the largest steel producer and recycler in the United States; we also pioneered and dominate the mini mill industry. This process produces steel by melting scrap metal in electric arc furnaces, at reduced cost and time of conventional steel mills, making Nucor one of the lowest cost steel producers in the world. Nucor’s origins are with auto manufacturer Ransom E. Olds, who founded Oldsmobile and then Reo Motor Cars. Through a series of transactions, the company Olds founded eventually became the Nuclear Corporation of America. The company expanded into the steel joist business in the 60’s and became Nucor Corporation in 1972. Since then Nucor has consistently grown and has facilities in nineteen states with over 20,000 employees. They manufacture carbon and alloy steel bars, beams, sheet, plate, joists, fasteners, cold finished steel, metal building systems, and light gauge steel framing. Nucor currently ranks in the top 200 companies in the Fortune 500.
