Employer Information

The 40th Engineering Exposition at Virginia Tech

The Engineering Expo at Virginia Tech is the second largest student-run career fair in the country. Due to growing demand to attend the event, we are excited to announce that the 40th Engineering Expo will be the first three-day event in the history of the career fair! The Expo provides an opportunity for employers to visit Virginia Tech, and share with students more information on the positions they need to fill. Employers often have internships, co-op positions, and full-time jobs.

The Student Engineers' Council works hard to make this an outstanding event for employers as well as students. We hope to enhance the experience this year with the use of Career Fair Plus, a mobile app designed specifically to benefit career fairs.

Career Fair Plus

We are excited to announce that we will be using Career Fair Plus, a mobile app designed to enhance the career fair experience for both students and recruiters, for the 2019 Engineering Expo!

  • The app offers many benefits to students, including an interactive list of companies that are attending the event as well as interactive booth maps.
  • Employers can display ads at the top of the Employers page within the app by purchasing sponsorship or add-on options.
  • The app also offers a feature called Skip The Line ™, which allows students to sign up ahead of time for time slots to talk to recruiters. These time slots are left to the discretion of each company that has access to the feature. Access to Skip The Line™ will be given to all sponsors and will also be offered as an add-on option.

Sponsoring the SEC

The SEC places a high value on all employers who elect to become a sponsor of the Expo; your sponsorship supports our philanthropic efforts. Every year, the SEC gives over $140,000 to design teams, engineering organizations, and engineering faculty in the form of three funds, as well as scholarships.

  • $700,000 Student Engineers' Council Design Team Endowment Fund
The Design Team Endowment (DTE) is given to 60 engineering design teams, totaling $30,000 each year. It was created to afford design teams the opportunity to succeed in cases where a lack of funding might otherwise hinder them. The DTE provides funding for, but not limited to, design competition entry fees, tools, and hardware.
  • $1,000,000 Lynn Nystrom Engineering Organization Fund
The Engineering Organization Fund (EOF) is given to over 50 engineering organizations, totaling $60,000 each year. It was established to financially assist organizations in sponsoring engineering-related events and programs, such as conferences, student projects, and outreach programs.
  • Big Contribution
The Big Contribution is given to faculty and staff to support research and other projects in the College of Engineering, totaling $30,000 each year. In the past, SEC has funded research on cyborgs, contributed to the 4-axis mill in the Ware Lab, and provided funds for accelerometers in Goodwin Hall.
